Some excerpts:
The amazing thing is that the different layers come together to create a crazy Gesamtkunstwerk, which constanly pokes fun at itself while being indisputable fascinating. There’s no question that it is over-the-top, bizarre, megalomania (…) it is a theatre experience of a special kind.
Audacity wins: Director Jürgen R. Weber and his team cleverly set Braunfels‘ strangely anachronistic opera with its flood of giant images and ideas somewhere between a deeper meaning and higher nonsense, and can rely on a strong ensemble and an exceptional conductor.
